Rally Recap: Asw. Mila Jasey, meet our charter school parents

Tuesday, charter school parents from Newark and surrounding districts demonstrated in front of Assemblywoman Mila Jasey’s office in Maplewood, NJ.

She is the Assemblywoman who is sponsoring a bill with Assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan to halt the expansion of charter schools for three years. In a meeting on Friday, Asw. Jasey told charter parents she “dropped the bill to force the conversation.” She also wrote this statement which doesn’t say too much. Charter parents were none too happy about their children being used as political pawns.

Parents shared their outrage. More than 100 parents descended upon sleepy, affluent Maplewood. We think Jasey got the message. In case you didn’t, you can read ALL about it on NJ Spotlight, Politicker NJ, NJTV, and Star-Ledger to name a few. NBD. Surely, Jasey hasn’t heard the last of it and that’s something we all support.
